NBHA FL-06 - Newsletter – January 2008

MEMBER SURVEY RESPONSE:  I was a little disappointed in the responses I received from our member survey.  Out of 200 members, I received 13 surveys back.  If you would like to have a say in what’s going on and decisions I have to make about our district, please take 5 minutes to fill it out, and return it to me at the next show.

MORE WORLD QUALIFIER SLOTS FOR BIG DISTRICTS!!  If you think larger districts, like ours, should get more qualifier slots to world shows, please let NBHA know!  I asked what it would take to get this rule changed, and they told me they thought about it, but haven’t had enough requests from members to do anything about it.  I can’t do this alone, but together, I think we can get this changed!    PLEASE WRITE OR EMAIL YOUR THOUGHTS TO:  NBHA, ATTN: RICK HARDY, Email: rick.hardy@nbha.com

SHOW HELP:  Lake Park was our first show, and we’re still struggling to get help.  So, we’re going to make a change.  I’m not going to fuss and beg at every show.  I will be right beside you working my tail off, but I expect everyone to get involved.  We will have a short Member Meeting at 11:45am at Double R on 1/26/08 and we will vote on the solution.

·         Option 1 – Mandatory Work Day – you must work one day out of the year or designate someone to work for you, if you want to compete for District Year-end prizes.  If you choose NOT to participate, you will still earn qualifying points, but your district awards will be forfeited.  You don’t have to do the work yourself, you just have to make sure someone does it that day, for Open and Youth.

·         Option 2 – Ask Arena Hosts to hire barrel setters and WE will pay them out of our awards fund.

·         Option 3 – (combination) Work your one day or Opt-out and pay for one barrel setter fee.  (And we’ll need to set a deadline for sign-up or Opt-out)

PARTICIPATION REWARDS PROGRAM:  Please remember to fill out a PR Card, every time you work at a show, bring a new member, or raise money for the district.  For more information, please ask our show staff how to earn Participation Rewards Points!  Thank you again, to all of you who helped out at Lake Park.

SHOW STAFF NEEDED:  Please see attached list of jobs available, with job descriptions.  This requires a minimum ONE YEAR COMMITMENT.  We have a great “little” staff, but we need to have others trained to take over, if someone misses a show or quits!  Some of you already know, I will be leaving in a couple years and I hope by that time, to have you so organized that nobody misses me!  If you are interested, please come talk to me.

PEE-WEE CLASS:  We had our first Pee-wee class at Lake Park, which was a lot of fun!  This is for beginners; kids who are not ready to compete in open or youth yet.  This is a fun class.  No points.  Lead line is ok.  All kids will win prizes or money!

SAFETY ISSUES:  Please keep the path to the alleyway clear at all times.  Do not stand in or walk across the alleyway during the show.  If you are schooling your horse during a drag, please be out of the way by the time the tractors shut off.  Please watch for horses entering and leaving the arena, and give them a clear pathway to the arena.  Parents – please watch your children and make sure they understand the dangers of being around the alleyway.

2007 PERFECT ATTENDANCE MEMBERS:  Amanda Avery, Diana Blanchard, Maeghan Bryant, Bonnie Calhoun, Jannelle Cannon, Cherryl Carreno, Heather Carter, Brittani Coleman, Cheryl Collins, Jordyn Evans, Jamie Huff, Barbara Thomas, Tomi Thomas
